While I’m not particularly interested in exactly how many cars are sold by which manufacturer, in an effort to concentrate more on what those cars are actually like, when it comes to Toyota, it’s actually the numbers that matter.

The Japanese manufacturer has perfected the construction of automobiles on the same model as that used to manufacture household appliances, and the latest figure they have to brag about is definitely noteworthy.

According to a report published by Reuters, “Toyota Motor Corp will this year become the first automaker to make more than 10 million vehicles a year, boosted by a weaker yen and strong demand for hybrids in Japan.” Of that grand total, some 3.3 million will be made in Japan alone, which just goes to show just how massive the whole operation really is.

Crossing the threshold this year was predictable, though, as they came close to selling 10 million units last year, as well, but didn’t quite get there. Regardless, they are still the world’s largest carmaker, after having fallen behind VW and GM and then recovered. I just hope that out of all those millions upon millions of cars they’re making and/or are set to make, there’ll be something for the humbled petrol-head to enjoy too – more affordable sports cars, please!
