Jeremy Clarkson, in his infinite wisdom, did make one crucial discovery for mankind. He found the easy way for smokers to quench their craving for nicotine – it was called smoking…a rear-driven car’s back wheels for amusement.

Furthermore, since Mr. Clarkson likes fast Mercedes-Benz cars, we thought it was only natural that we bring him up when talking about the Weistech E63 AMG, a car he would most definitely get.

Why? Because it’s a fast Merc, which he likes, and one that also happens to have more powah, which he likes even more. He would laugh upon hearing the 850hp figure, but we’re not laughing, because the Weistec E63 is not a funny car. In fact, it is quite serious about reaching very high speeds very quickly and shaving the tread off its tires, as the latest episode of Drive’s Tuned illustrates.

Blasting off from the surface of the planet, and this modified E63 still makes a lot of sense, because you get this much power for around $16,000 (€12,300) over the asking price of the vehicle – you could spend that much more on optional extras, if you’re not careful, so in the context, it’s not a lot of money.

What’s more, because of Weistec’s experience, the every-day usability of the car is not hampered (too much), as you will discover by scrolling down and watching Matt Farah take this bonkers Merc on a series of Californian toll roads, hoping that the locals are cheap and don’t use them.
