For the past three decades, the M3 series has been the sporting pinnacle of BMW‘s product range. The illustrious story of the two-door models will continue on the same path, albeit with a new designation: M4.

This week, we caught our first glimpse of the M4 Coupe in the guise of a concept model at Pebble Beach, and as we’ve seen so many times in the past, BMW’s M studies don’t change much, if at all, when they enter production.

That said, this CGI (Computer Generated Image) of an M4 Convertible from the creative minds at X-Tomi Design, is as close as you’ll get to the actual model that should go on sale in markets around the world by early 2015.

Like the regular 4-Series Convertible that will be formally introduced later this fall, the open-top M4 will feature a three-piece electric-folding metal roof, while power will come from a newly developed 3.0-liter turbocharged six delivering about the same output as the outgoing M3’s naturally aspirated V8, but more torque and better fuel economy numbers.
