Just in case you were wondering, General Motors has put an end to any rumors and gossip regarding the possibility of the seventh generation of the Chevrolet Corvette forming the base for a high-end sports car with the Cadillac badge, much in the likes of the XLR.

The latter was a luxury roadster based on the Corvette C5’s chassis and built from 2003 through 2009, with the most potent version being the XLR-V that used the same supercharged Northstar V8 as the STS-V, rated for 443-horsepower.

At a recent media event for the 2014 Corvette Stingray launch, Fox News asked the car’s Chief Engineer, Tadge Jeuchter, if a Cadillac XLR comeback could be in the works.

“This is a Corvette, it’s optimized for the Corvette market,” Juechter said. “There’s no intent to offer any other nameplate, aside from the Corvette.”

What do you think; is GM right to keep the Corvette a more bespoke offering in its wide range of vehicles, or should it share the love with its top brand, Cadillac, creating a second “halo” sports car? Tell us below.
