Reviews are in for the Jaguar F-Type roadster, and the general consensus seems to be that it handles nicely, but is not necessarily the same kind of precision tool that a Porsche Cayman is said to be. However, a bit of extra torsional rigidity does wonders for handling sharpness and a whole bunch of other things, so the announced coupe version could be just that.

Our Australians colleagues over at CarAdvice have more on this, now, after having talked to Jaguar’s product planning manager Steven De Ploey. He admits that a coupe body shape would allow them to offer customers a much better handling package, while the use of aluminum in the construction would make the difference even more noticeable. They would then have them promote the car as somewhat of a different, more purist-oriented proposition.

Once the complicated roof mechanism and extra bracing in the sides of the car are removed, with the slack being taken up by the solid roof, and perhaps, the car could be made to handle even more power – gaining a roof would probably result in far better R, R-S and R-S GT extra-sporty models too…

Hopefully, the price will come down too, a bit, at least, though it will still be more expensive than many people thought it was going to be before it was launched, and still out of their reach.
