Last year’s Lexus LF-CC Concept coupe that indirectly previewed the appearance of the new generation IS sedan and directly the looks of the upcoming RC Coupe, has loaned its looks and name to the luxury brand’s new competitor for Japan’s 2014 Super GT500 series.

The new Lexus racecar will replace the long-serving SC 430, which has represented the brand in the Japanese racing series since 2006, delivering two Super GT championship titles for the driver pairing of André Lotterer and Juichi Wakisaka, in its debut year and in 2009.

Lexus said the competition version of the LF-CC Concept will take to the track for its first shakedown test at the Suzuka circuit on Friday afternoon, with further details to be announced at a later date.
