The latest review from British magazine Autocar is that of the Porsche 911 Turbo – the latest one with the 991 codename. It has Steve Sutcliffe pilot the more potent of the two 911 Turbo models, the “S” with 552hp on an assortment of roads with varying degrees of twist.

The car leaves a very pleasant impression, and all the phrases uttered by Sutcliffe seem to end in “more than before.” I don’t doubt it for a second, as the new 911, even in standard form, is bigger, more spacious, more comfortable and a bit faster than before too. There’s also more power from the 3.8-liter flat-six twin-turbocharged motor, and sub-three second benchmark sprints are not out of the question.

This is achieved with help from the clever PDK dual-clutch gearbox, which is the one you’re going to have regardless if you want it or not – if you buy a Turbo, it’s the only one offered.

The rest of the review pretty much praises the car, and it makes us feel like the difference between the 997-based 911 GT3 and the new 991-based model is pretty much the same when it comes to the Turbos, as well. What we’re left with is a slightly quicker, but more inert car that is more comfortable and usable than before, so aside from the new non-hydraulic (electric) steering that always seems to put reviewers in a bit of a pickle with Porsche’s PR (the good things they say just seem a bit forced), it sounds like a proper rival to the Nissan GT-R. Bring on the drag races!
