We humans have an instinctive, primordial fear of fire, which only becomes worse if the equation includes being trapped in a small space such as the cabin of a racecar.

Welcome to the petrifying world of Michael Stofflet, a Dirt Modified racer who experienced all of the above after a seemingly harmless accident at the Mahoning Valley Speedway in Pennsylvania, with the entire scene captured on film by his onboard camera.

During the race, another racer hit Stofflet’s car, which rolled over to its side. Almost immediately, petrol started gushing from the engine into the cabin and onto the road, before it ignited engulfing the vehicle and Stofflet in flames.

Fortunately, track safety personnel sprinted to his rescue and quickly pulled him out extinguishing the fire. And get this; the ballsy racing driver took the car to the pits, had it fixed and went back into the race!

“I am ok,” wrote Stofflet on his YouTube channel. “It happened during the heat we got it back in the pits and me and my crew got it back together in 25-30 took hot laps it worked well and then ran the feature and it was a touch loose and ended up 5th.”

“Thanks everyone for your concern I’m doing well just my neck is a little stiff and no I was not wearing a head sock. Thinking about getting one never thought I would need it,” he added in a comment posting.
