Could it be that new BMW M4 Coupe will come exclusively with a dual-clutch transmission breaking a long tradition (the name may be new, but the M4 is in spirit and in essence the M3 Coupe’s replacement) of giving drivers a manual gearbox offering?

We’ve heard the same rumors before, but Autoblog.com is quoting a “well-placed source” (we imagine from within BMW) who told them that “the upcoming F82 M4 will arrive with a dual-clutch transmission (DCT) as standard equipment – with no manual option”.  The same source said that BMW will show the production car at the Detroit motor show in January.

Some sites like Bimmerpost are already questioning the validity of the report with spy pictures of the new M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan fitted with stick shifts. For our part, we sent an email to a BMW contact and are waiting for a response.

In the meantime, we assembled a collection of videos from the BMW M4 Coupe Concept presentation at last weekend’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance as well as last night’s introduction for the members of the BMW Car Club of America (BMWCCA) in Monterey, which you can find right after the jump.
