Back in 2011, Subaru unveiled the BRZ STI Concept, at the Los Angeles motor show to preview the regular production version of the coupe that was released later in the same year at the Tokyo Motor Show. Fast forward to 2013 and Subaru seems ready to introduce a higher performance version of the BRZ with the coveted STI badge.

If you head over to the official Japanese site for the STI brand, the primary page cycles through several teaser shots, one of which is a white on black image showing the message “Coming Soon.”

Only two of the shots are relevant, and actually show parts of the car, including the STI-branded fender vent, and the car’s generously-sized grille. However, it’s worth mentioning though, that when downloading the shots from the site, they were all called “BRZ tS teaser,” which means the car they will likely show off at this year’s edition of either the LA or Tokyo motor shows will not really be a fully-fledged STI model.

The “tS” designation is used for models that have been breathed on by STI, yet don’t get all the extra performance associated with the moniker. Still, that doesn’t make it any less appealing. Don’t expect it to be turbocharged, though, and while it could get a hike in its horsepower figure, it won’t be a huge one.
