Toyota GT86 Turbo Fensport Racer vs. McLaren MP4-12C

|

We were quite curious and eager when we first read about Autocar editor Steve Sutcliffe's video test of a "New Toyota GT86 TURBO vs. McLaren MP4-12C", for reasons all of our readers can understand without further explanation.

The excitement, however, started to fade away when we saw that it was an aftermarket turbo conversion, and slowly turned into disappointment about one-and-a-half minutes into the clip when we discovered that the comparison with the McLaren MP4-12C would be made with the racing version of the aforementioned Toyota coupe and not the street legal model…

Both the street legal (GT86S) and racing (GT86R) versions of the GT 86 Turbo are made by UK tuning outfit Fensport, with the former producing 250bhp for a 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint time of 5.5 seconds and top speed of 150mph (241km/h), and the latter 335bhp, 4.0 seconds and 160+mph (258km/h), respectively.

Even though it doesn't make much sense, you can watch (and judge) for yourself in the video after the break.
