The very first official teaser photo of the all-new Volkswagen Golf R is out in the open with the German brand also providing two clues about the car, the first being “R kommt” which is German for “R Comes”, evidently pointing to a Frankfurt Motor Show debut in September, and the second a “300…” number tag.

What “300…” refers to is most likely the power of the new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four that will be shared with the latest Audi S3 three-door hatchback, five-door Sportback and four-door Sedan models, in which it produces a peak output of 300PS (296hp) and maximum torque of 380 Nm (280 lb-ft).

Besides being 11 percent more powerful, Wolfsburg’s new hot hatch will also be lighter than the 1,508kg (3,325 lbs) outgoing Golf R Mk6 that is rated at 266hp / 270PS (256hp in North American specification), thanks to the seventh generation Golf’s MQB underpinnings.
