I don’t think it’s really a secret that Sony decided to launch Gran Turismo 6 (GT6) on the ageing PlayStation 3 (PS3) console to milk some more money out of it and keep it relevant as the new and more powerful PS4 gets ever closer to store shelves. Thus, we now learn that next-gen version of the signature PlayStation racing game will not be called GT6, as originally presumed, tying the story together neatly.

The information comes from none other than Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the series, who was interviewed by a Japanese magazine. The translation revealed him being asked about the current state of the game, and replying that it is roughly 80 percent done, still needing some fine tuning.

During the same conversation, the bigger piece of information was dropped – the PS4 game would be arriving in 1–2 years’ time, but it would in fact be a new installment altogether, dubbed GT7.

This means that the title hitting worldwide shelves on December 6 is merely a distraction ahead of the big event that is to come… They say the PS3’s processor, while unstable, could give more and has done so, therefore allowing them to make a pretty(er) game that runs smoothly, without needing to switch to the more powerful hardware.

Nevertheless, this makes me wonder if they held back on some of the really good stuff, though, saving it for the subject of the event mentioned above.
