Japan’s Infiniti is clearly a brand that doesn’t want to stand still, and the management constantly strives for advancement, and change (seemingly at all cost). Sometimes, that leads to some questionable decision making, but it also means they are willing to ignore convention, if they think their interests are better met that way.

You see, they want to be the more extroverted of the premium automakers, and this shows in the styling of their most recent vehicles and concepts, as well as naming a special edition SUV after Sebastian Vettel – Mercedes, Audi and BMW wouldn’t do that any more, because it doesn’t really stand the test of time well. Does anybody remember the Hakkinen Edition and Coulthard Edition of the first-gen Mercedes A-Class? Exactly.

However, according to a report by Autoexpress, Nissan’s posh branch is looking to make a much bigger splash in the more established automaker’s relatively stable and predictable world with a large two-door aimed at the upcoming S-Class coupe. The German car will be revealed as a concept in Frankfurt very soon, but we already know what to expect as we’ve had sketches and teasers to make the wait more bearable.

Infiniti plans to release this new model in six years’ time or “towards the end of the decade,” but until then it is expected that the four-door that is to donate its underpinnings (S-Class saloon rival) will arrive before.

This is exciting news, because the concept from which this new model draws its inspiration is the striking Essence coupe (pictured in our gallery) revealed back in 2009, a car they seem very proud of.
