Land Rover has announced a series of updates for the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport for the 2014, with the most important being the launch of hybrid versions, the addition of a new diesel engine for the Sport and a new Black Design Pack for the Range Rover.

Available for both body-styles, the V6-powered hybrid models have CO2 ratings of just 169 g/km. Both models share an identical powertrain – the 3.0-liter SDV6 turbodiesel engine linked to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and a 35kW electric motor-generator in place of the torque converter. Total system output is 340PS (335hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque, allowing for a sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h in under 7 seconds. Average fuel economy is rated at 44.1 mpg UK (36.7 mpg US, 6.4 l/100 km).

In addition to the hybrid version, the Range Rover Sport gets the powerful 339PS (334hp) SDV8 diesel engine, which has a revised intake system including twin-intercoolers, a new sump, new cast alloy engine mounts and optimised calibration. Mated to the same ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox, the unit delivers 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque and helps the Sport accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 140 mph (225 km/h) when fitted with the Dynamic pack.

For 2014, the flagship Range Rover model gets the Black Design Pack option, available on Vogue, Vogue SE and Autobiography models. The package features parts finished in Gloss Black such as the Range Rover script on bonnet and tailgate, front grille, door mirror caps, exterior door handles, bumper vanes, side vent graphic, wheel nuts, tailgate finisher. The Black Design Pack also brings new 21-inch alloy wheels and a 22-inch alloy wheel with a new style finish. The interior gets an available powered upper seat articulation (for the driver and front passenger) and 10.2-inch screens for the rear passengers.

Furthermore, both body-styles are available with a series of new driver-assistance technologies and the new Land Rover InControl connected car system. The upgraded models will be available to order from September 10, with deliveries starting from early 2014.
