Skoda’s Greenline range of vehicles is its equivalent of VW’s Blue Motion tech, and it promises to make the cars cleaner and more economical by changing small details and giving it special components that help achieve the set goals. Now, the lineup of Octavias just become even more interesting, with the addition of a Greenline model that promises to emit just 87 g/km CO2 and use a mere 3.3 l/100 km (71.2mpg US or 85.6mpg UK) on the combined cycle.

It uses the usual array of tricks to go as low as it does, like “start-stop system, brake energy recuperation, tires with reduced rolling-resistance, specific aerodynamics as well as powertrain improvements and weight reductions.”

The biggest part to play in the low figures posted here is that of the 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine, which is found in pretty much all of the VW group cars except for the really luxurious ones.
