If common sense and respect for other people cannot get drivers to behave in a rational way on the road, then perhaps the knowledge that someone could be following your actions, will.

An American employee of the U.S. Embassy in Malta found that out the hard way when his road-rage-fueled outburst against a Maltese driver on August 24, was captured on film and shared on YouTube for the entire world to see – including his bosses…

YouTube user Jakovids was the one to record the incident in which the unnamed embassy employee lashed out against the driver of a Toyota Verso MPV for not moving aside and even attempted to open the car’s locked door.

“I’m in this flat in Sliema the other day and some maltese driver refuses to reverse to make space for this American…,” said Jakovids. “Next thing you know he’s out the car wanting to fight!”

The U.S. Embassy learned about the incident and sent the angry employee back home. The Washington Post reported that the embassy did not say if he had been fired, only that he had “departed.”

It also issued the following statement on its FaceBook page:

“The U.S. Embassy deplores the conduct shown in the video. We regret such inexcusable behavior, whether on the part of an American citizen, or those of any other nationality. We strongly believe that everyone should be treated with respect and courtesy on the roads and in the streets of our towns and villages. We’re all in this together.”
