This prototype XF may look similar to the test mules for Jaguar’s upcoming BMW 3-Series challenger that has been officially confirmed for a 2015 market launch, but there are differences on the body, with this mule also sporting a slightly longer wheelbase and wider tracks.

As noted by our spy photographers, what it is, is a mule for the redesigned XF that’s scheduled for a late 2015 or early 2016 introduction.

The styling at this point remains a mystery, but Jaguar officials have hinted at the use of more aluminum on the next XF (chassis and body panels) to bring down the weight and gain in performance as well as fuel economy numbers and handling.

It is also said that the mid-size luxury model will adopt the Jaguar-Land Rover group’s range of four-cylinder engines known as the Hotfire, offered alongside the bigger, more powerful and thirstier V6 and V8 units, in both rear- and all-wheel drive arrangements.
