You may remember that our spy photographers caught up with a lightly disguised tester of Nissan’s upcoming European compact hatchback last summer, which was clearly based on the car American buyers know as the Sentra (called Pulsar in Australia and Sylphy in other markets).

Here we again with a new round of scoop shots only this time, Nissan engineers wrapped up the Almera’s successor from top to bottom. Whether this means that Nissan will heavily modify the appearance of the hatch for European consumers is something we cannot tell from these pictures.

What we do know is that Nissan’s Ford Focus and VW Golf contender will be produced at the brand’s Barcelona plant in Spain from July 2014, with European deliveries to commence in the fall of the same year, meaning that a 2014 Geneva Motor Show debut next March is very likely.

The diesel and petrol engine lineup for the compact model, which may or may not keep the Almera name, will mirror the new Qashqai crossover.
