A shortlist with the seven finalists for Europe’s prestigious 2014 Car of the Year Award has been revealed. Without further ado, here are the new models that made it to the final round from an initial selection of 30 cars in September: BMW i3, Citroën C4 Picasso, Mazda3, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Peugeot 308, Skoda Octavia and Tesla S.

From this selection, the most innovative vehicles are the two electric models, the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S, together with the luxury Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but that’s not the only criteria considered by the jury comprised of European auto journalists.

Looking at the other, more mainstream contenders for the title, we’d give a slight advantage to the Mazda3 (also a candidate for the 2014 North American Car of the Year) for its sleek design and weight- and fuel-saving approach.

Naturally, we’d like to hear what you think and in particular, now that we know the 7 finalists, which one do you believe will grab the coveted award that will be announced at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show on March 3?
