The lack of resources has leaded the police force of Afghanistan’s capital city, Kabul, to find new and innovative ways to prevent crime. Since there is a known problem of thieves stealing cars to turn them into moving bombs, the Afghan cops have resorted to puncturing the tires of cars randomly parked on the streets and sidewalks.

It’s a frequent occurrence, according to NPR, whose reporters also suffered as a result of it. As you can imagine, such extreme ways of dealing with problems do attract unrest and disdain from the good people of Kabul who have to pay for new tires over and over again if they are unlucky to park in the path of the tire puncturing squads.

Those who have complained were said to have been warned beforehand that their tires were going to be punctured, according to the police, who defend their actions and don’t seem to want to put a stop to it.

Among those on puncturing duty, there are some police officers who reportedly only let the air out of the tires and don’t repeatedly stab them too. Be grateful that you can park your car outside in relative safety, or at least in a place where only vandals are up to this special kind of no-good.
