All the aftermarket modifications that have been brought to the Tesla Model S up until this point (that we are aware of) have not improved the all-electric sedan’s straight-line performance in any way, mainly sticking to the realm of the cosmetic.

Now, though, Saleen Automotive has officially announced its plan to build an enhanced version of the car, the first EV tackled in the company’s high-horsepower history.

According to founder Steve Saleen, his company “is intent on continually expanding its presence in the automotive market. We have already announced or produced incredible vehicles including Camaros, Challengers, and of course Mustangs, adding style and performance to each of those legendary lines. Now, we turn our attention to the vehicle that has defined the sports car in the rapidly growing electric car sector.”

He explained that they want to hit “the electric car market with a revolutionary design all our own, we share a desire to also produce vehicles that are not dependent on fossil fuels and which accomplish this fuel independence with a tremendous assemblage of grace and technology.”

The idea is to create “one of the most compelling Teslas to ever hit the roadway,” though that doesn’t mean swapping out the rear-mounted electric motor for a front-mounted and very implausible V8

Bold claims are being made here, but it’s hard to accurately guess what Mr. Saleen means by all of this. Judging by some of the older, bigger jobs on conventional sports cars, some re-engineering of parts may occur. This should be an interesting development to follow.
