First announced at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show last fall, the Opel Adam Black and White Edition models have arrived in Vauxhall dealerships across the UK priced from £14,995 on-the-road.
Available in a limited run of 250 units for the British market, the two special editions borrow their design cues as well as their connectivity features from smartphones and especially, Apple’s iPhone, though, the latter is not directly mentioned.
On the outside, the special Adam comes in the witty named ‘I’ll be Black’ metallic or ‘Saturday White Fever’ brilliant paint exterior colours, with the rest of the car sporting bushed, aluminum-look trim including the side mirror housings, window line and grille bar, 18-inch wheels with matching brushed aluminium finish wheel clips, LED light clusters and a roof spoiler.
The exterior colour scheme continues inside, with the Black Edition surrounding its passengers in Ocio Black Morrocana seat trim cushions, piano black centre console and instrument panel, and contrasting bright white door trims, glove box, leather gear knob and handbrake handle. On the White Edition version, you get Ocio White Morrocana seats, instrument panel and centre console.
Vauxhall’s IntelliLink infotainment system and Siri Eyes Free voice control are fitted as standard on both editions. Those who own an Apple iOS 6 or later compatible iPhone can activate the Siri Eyes Free function through the steering wheel controls and operate it with voice commands.
Overall, we’d say the White Edition is the better and snazzier looking of the two, but feel free to agree or disagree.
Both variations are powered by a 1.4-liter gasoline engine delivering 86hp (87PS) for a 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint in 12.5 seconds, a top speed of 109mph (175km/h) and a combined fuel economy of 51.4mpg UK (5.5l/100km).
