The Honda CRX is one of the Japanese carmaker’s most successful cars ever made and it’s simple to see why: it was affordable, fuel-efficient, sporty and fairly good-looking. It’s quite a shame Honda couldn’t replicate the same recipe for the CR-Z hybrid.

For Christopher Hoffman, a life-long Honda fan, the CRX is the perfect car. A 1987 Honda Civic CRX Si was his first new car ever and he vowed to keep it forever. So far the plan seems to work beautifully, even though 27 years have passed since he bought it.

Powered by a 91hp 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that loves to rev, the 1,900lbs (862kg) Honda CRX is a joy to drive. Furthermore, it’s very reliable too, with the owner saying he can count on one hand how many repairs he’s had to make in 27 years – two of which are bulb replacements…
