Not to be left out of the “S” performance party, Audi’s new A3 Cabriolet range is being extended with the addition of an S3 variant that will make its grand premiere at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, before arriving initially in German dealerships this summer, and thereafter, other markets around the world.

The S3 Cabriolet is exactly how you would have imagined to be: an open top A3 with all the cosmetic and mechanical appointments and upgrades of the existing S3 sedan, three door hatch and five-door Sportback models.

As such, there’s a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine tucked under the hood, producing 296hp (300PS) at 5,500 rpm and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque between 1,800 and 5,500 rpm.

However, unlike the other models of the family that are offered with a six-speed manual as well, the four-pot in the convertible is connected exclusively to Audi’s 6sp dual-clutch S tronic transmission that channels power to all four wheels, thanks to the quattro system.

Other tidbits include the uprated suspension, brakes and steering parts, a sported up exterior with bespoke bumpers, quad pipes, silver trims and 18-inch alloys with 225/40 R18 tires, and a number of interior upgrades, such as the sport seats, matt brushed aluminum inlays, unique gauges and extra standard equipment.

The four-seater features an electric operated ragtop that retracts in 18 seconds and which allows for a luggage capacity of 285 liter (10.06 cubic ft) when closed, and 245 liters (8.65 cubic ft) when it’s hiding in the trunk.

In Germany, the S3 Cabriolet will have a starting price of €48,500 (equal to US$66,700).
