One of the main reasons Nissan revived the Datsun brand from its decades-long slumber was to cater to the needs of emerging automotive markers like India and at this week’s Delhi Auto Expo, it is revealing a new concept for a small car that combines cues from hatchbacks and crossovers.

Named the Redi-Go Concept, the five door model rides on a wheelbase of 2,350mm (92.5 inches) and has short overhangs along with a crossover-style raised body.

The Japanese carmaker did not release any other technical details about the study, but noted that it does hint at a future production model for the local market.

“If we were to make a car like Datsun redi-GO CONCEPT it would be a segment creator in India, an aspirational car that at the same time is attainable, a car that would be within reach of the first time buyer,” commented Vincent Cobee, Global Head of Datsun.

“This concept shows how serious we are about reinvigorating the market by catering for the needs of a growing class of Indians who have the chance to own a family car that will enable them to enjoy a new sense of independence,” he added.
