Following the preview photos shared last month, Qoros has released full information on its second model, the 3 Hatch, scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show. Arriving on the Chinese market in the middle of 2014, the hatchback is derived from the 3 Sedan and is aimed at younger customers.

In terms of styling, the differences between the two cars are mostly at the rear end, where the new model features a hatchback design with smaller, rectangular taillights. However, slight changes have been operated at the front as well, including an extended lower front grille, redesigned front bumper and new round fog lights.

Based on the same modular platform as the sedan, the Qoros 3 Hatch features different C-pillars, roof, rear side panels, and tailgate, plus a new rear roof cross-member for exceptional torsional rigidity.

It has the same wheelbase, width and height as the sedan, but the rear overhang and overall length are reduced by 177mm (6.97in). The 4438mm- (174.7-in) long compact hatchback promises “unusually generous interior space” for its segment, according to Qoros.

The 3 Hatch will launch with four trim levels (Essence, Experience, Experience Plus and Elegance), with Qoros offering the MMHTM (Multi Media Hub) 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, QorosQloudTMconnected services platform, Bluetooth, electric windows and exterior mirrors as standard on all variants.

Under the bonnet, the Qoros 3 Hatch shares the 1.6-liter naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines with the sedan. The entry-level unit is combined with a standard six-speed manual gearbox, while the turbocharged version is linked to a six-speed Getrag DCT (dual-clutch automatic). The naturally-aspirated unit produces 125hp (126PS) and 155 Nm (114 lb-ft) at 3,900 rpm, while the turbocharged version develops 154hp (156PS) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm.

Equipped with the more powerful engine, the Qoros 3 Hatch sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 9.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 210 km/h (130 mph). The standard engine is the most fuel-efficient, averaging 6.1 l/100 km (38.5 mpg US) with the DCT transmission and 6.3 l/100 km (37.3 mpg US) with the manual gearbox. The turbocharged version with DCT is rated at 6.5 l/100 km (36.2 mpg US).
