Land Rover is upping luxury and performance with its two new Evoque versions dubbed Autobiography and Autobiography Dynamic. The latter is the more impressive sounding of the two, as it comes with performance mods, while the first is strictly plushness-oriented.

The Dynamic boasts a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out 285 PS (282 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft). They don’t quote the unit’s performance, but it does bring about a substantial increase over the standard 240 PS (237 hp) original output. However, if we look at the figures for an Evoque with the exact same power, only difference being it’s courtesy of a tuner, 100 km/h (62 mph) comes up in 6.5 seconds and top speed is 230 km/h (144 mph).

This sporty model also comes with revised (firmer) suspension settings and a standard-fit an active driveline that “improves traction, enhances agility and improves fuel efficiency by engaging four-wheel drive seamlessly and automatically when required” – torque vectoring is also extensively relied upon for the handling characteristics.

Steering also benefits from special calibration and bigger brakes are always welcome – this has larger disks up front.

The non-Dynamic Autobiography variant doesn’t get the uprated engine, steering and suspension, but it does retain the different subtle body kit fitted to it. If you don’t know where to look for the visual distinguishers, we’ll point to the “new premium grille design, lower front valance, jewel-like headlights and tail lamps,” in addition to “ingot badging on the tailgate and front fender vents.” The striking color  you see on the car pictured here is also new and goes by the name Phoenix Orange.

Inside, both variants are treated to special touches that can be had in a choice of six color palettes, two types of seats that come in four shades of leather, with embossed headrests and LED-backlit sill logos finishing it off.
