The unveiling of Volvo’s Estate Concept was met with a lot of enthusiasm, mostly being praised for being pretty and a wagon at the same time. Now, as we approach the launch of the first car to bear the design languagr it previewed, the XC90, we learn of a rumor that Volvo is actually pondering putting the concept into production.

German magazine Autobild says the model could be called the V90, and replace the ancient but still available V70, being built on the same scalable underpinnings as the SUV. Aside from us being able to infer that this means the new S80 could be a sedan version of it, it’s definitely good news for all wagon lovers who were short of attractive choices.

If the report holds true (remember, the concept was designed as a modern day 1800ES, not a “V” estate), it’s possible that the production spec car could gain two more doors over the concept and be noticeably longer. The brand’s new line of more efficient downsized engines would also make up the bulk of its power options too.

Additionally, the insider report from Germany also mentions models much smaller than the supposed new V90: a V40 replacement built in collaboration with China’s Geely and a V20 model that would puff out its chest against the Audi A1, the MINI and other posh city cars.

Naturally, since there’s no official word on this, it would be more than premature to say when and where Volvo would sell this new estate, and if it would make it to US shores.
