Gone are the flamboyant flowing lines of the previous-gen Hyundai Sonata, having been replaced with modern, almost-Germanic shapes and lines that give it a much more sober appearance.

Consumer Reports got a chance to prod around the new Sonata, and their first impressions are actually very good and promising for this new model. They say that aside from the new dose of style, the car should be pretty similar to its predecessor, with an updated carryover engine range that will also eventually boast a 1.6-liter turbo as the base.

This Sonata will probably change many buyers’ perspectives regarding the image of the Hyundai brand, and it’s to the credit of whoever is guiding this market grabbing surge of the Korean automaker; that someone is doing a rather fine job indeed.
