Earlier this month we posted a story about a LaFerrari prototype caught by our spy photographers during testing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. The car is apparently the LaFerrari XX, an extreme track-focused version of the hypercar that will act as a successor to the Enzo-based Ferrari FXX.

The LaFerrari XX will obviously be faster than the standard LaFerrari, with a report from Holland’s Autoweek claiming the prototype set an astonishing Nürburgring lap time of 6:35 minutes. To put that into context, the fastest (street-legal) production car on the Nürburgring is the Porsche 918 Spyder, which lapped the German track in 6:57 minutes – 22 seconds slower than the LaFerrari XX.

However, the comparison is not quite fair for the Porsche, as the extreme Ferrari is not street-legal. There is still no official Nürburgring lap time for the standard LaFerrari, despite the fact that the car was spotted on numerous occasions testing on the track. As for the McLaren P1, the UK-based sports car manufacturer only said its hypercar posted a sub-7 minute lap.

The LaFerrari XX spotted on the Nürburgring was fitted with special Pirelli tires and had racing Plexiglas windows. Spy photographers said it was extremely rowdy.
