Update: Our spy shooter friends from CarPix also confirmed Renault’s presence on the ‘Ring and sent us these two shots

The current Renault Megane RS doesn’t really have anything to prove any more, after it was for many years the most capable front wheel drive car you could buy and drive on the track. Now, it’s a bit behind, though with the new face and various tweaks it remains competitive, and it’s still just as fast as we’ve come to expect.

It recently lost its Nurburgring record crown to the new Seat Leon Cupra, and the video posted below could indicate that they may be trying to get it back with the current car. As YouTuber TouriClips suggests, the fact that two facelifted hot Meganes are driven very aggressively around the track is an indication of a record attempt.

However, they have a nine-second difference to make up, with less power than the SEAT and a six year model gap between them.

We’ll be on the lookout for any official word from Renault; if they say nothing, then we’ll know they have failed.
