The online world is abuzz today with a set of scoop shots said to be depicting a prototype of BMW‘s larger-than-life X7 SUV, which was formally announced in March, but is at least two years away from entering production.

Belgian website Le Moniteur Automobile says it received the photos of the car from one of its readers in “Bavaria”, speculating that it’s “probably the X7”.

Now, to me, this tester looks just like the F15 X5 prototypes of the not so distant past, both in styling and in size – don’t forget that, the third generation of the X5 is already a big SUV at 4,886 mm (192.4 in) long, but the X7 should be even bigger, easily surpassing the 5 meter mark (the Mercedes GL, for example, is 5,120 mm or 201.6 in long).

We’ve added a few shots of a camouflaged X5 in the gallery below so you can compare for yourself.
