New 300HP DS 5LS R Performance Concept by Citroën will Debut in Beijing [w/Video]

Citroën will show the potential of its new China-only DS 5LS sedan with the R concept car, a performance version that will debut at the Beijing Auto Show.

Powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 300hp and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, the 5LS R study by Citroen’s new China market DS brand sits 15mm lower than the production version, has wider front tracks and a sequential gearbox with shift paddles behind the steering wheel.

The chassis, brakes and suspension feature “high-precision development”, while carbon fiber components are used extensively. Citroën hasn’t offered performance figures.

Styling-wise, the DS 5LS R reflects its performance focus thanks to a sporty aerodynamic kit, wide side stripes in matt carbon grey on the front doors, as well as the “R” signature found on the bonnet, at the rear and on the sides of the car.

Further carbon fiber components include the side signature trim, which extends across the top of the side windows to the boot, cutting through the rear quarter panel with a subtly drawn shark fin.

The “DS Wings” grille features carbon grey dark chrome finish, while the sporty sculptural 20-inch wheels are carbon-colored to match the polished aluminum on the exterior and feature touches of Carmine Red, the car’s paint.

On the inside, the DS 5LS R offers a luxurious ambiance, with the cabin fully lined with leather and Alcantara, including the dashboard and steering wheel. The distinctive three-fabric version of the DS “watchstrap” upholstery features aniline full-grain leather, DS-embossed leather and Alcantara, while the seats, dashboard, upper door panels and central armrest are finished with pearl top-stitching in Carmine Red.

The instruments on the center console and the steering wheel also feature Carmine Red detailing and the “R” signature, with real carbon fiber inserts on the steering wheel, door panels and door handles, together with Carmine Red touches for the air vents.
