Consumer Reports had a chance to poke around the new Sedona at the Kia stand of the New York motor show. What they concluded is that the new Kia Sedona is a minivan/MPV in the true mold of the species. It’s not an SUV and it’s not a crossover, though its styling does kind of hint at both.

The front is clearly meant to exude muscularity and respect, and the flat sides with small windows give it a unique look in the segment.

In fact, that’s not exactly true, because from the side it hints at Peugeot’s rather stylish 5008 people mover, albeit with a less steeply raked windscreen pillar.

It also shows very impressive practicality features and some of the most comfy-looking rear seats I’ve ever seen – they may prove to not be comfortable, when the car gets tested, but they sure look like it in the video posted below.

Only time and sales figures will reveal if going ahead with this car in this form was the right strategic decision. It’s an attractive people mover, but there may not be that many people left to move as more and more are bitten by the crossover bug.
