In a symbolic move that heralds a new era for Lincoln as it opens its first showrooms in China, the brand’s first ever world premiere outside the U.S. borders took place today at the Beijing Auto Show with the new MKX luxury SUV Concept.

The car itself likely shares its underpinnings with the next 2015 Ford Edge that was previewed through a concept at last year’s LA Auto Show with the exterior styling echoing the lines of Lincoln’s latest models such as the MKC SUV and MKZ sedan.

“Great emphasis was put on the proportions of this concept vehicle,” said Andrea Di Buduo, exterior design manager of the Lincoln MKX Concept. “It’s a very emotional, athletic design. Its horizontal lines and defined undercuts are gracefully integrated and very sophisticated, yet convey a powerful and dynamic presence.”

Lincoln didn’t part with any photos of the concept’s interior nor did it say what plans it has for the powertrain, but as far as the latter is concerned, the brand’s EcoBoost turbocharged units should be a given.
