As at least one of our readers noticed in the press shots for VW’s new Golf R 400 Concept, whereas in the release the Germans talk about a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission, the photos clearly show a manual gear shift lever, so what gives?

This is what the PR mentions (we checked the German language version and it says the same thing):

“An automatic 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), which can also be controlled via gear shift lever or shift-paddles at the steering wheel, transmits the power to the 4MOTION permanent four-wheel drive system.”

Since we can’t see from these images if there’s a third pedal down there, one of two things applies: either VW made a booboo in the release or it somehow came up with a row-it-yourself gearbox for the DSG. If you ask me, I would lay my bet on the first…
