We know Ford’s current CEO, Alan Mulally, is retiring on July 1, with his spot being filled by the younger Mark Fields. Previously serving as COO, as well as other executive positions, Fields will be charged with continuing the upward trend started under Mulally, who lead the company to 19 consecutive profitable quarters. However, for the new boss, that may mean giving up on MyFord Touch.

Ford’s proprietary infotainment system has consistently been bashed by everybody from car reviewers to official company reps, to your grandma, and it’s been hinted in the past that they are not necessarily bound to using it and can look at other alternatives too.

With Fields at the helm, the process of giving it up could be accelerated.

This is not pure speculation, as the Blue Oval has already taken some obvious steps in that direction, the first of which was canceling their contract with Microsoft in February; they were the developers/suppliers of both MyFord and their other system, called Sync.

As reported on MSN Autos, they may switch to using a system created by QNX Software, a company close to phone manufacturers BlackBerry, who also develops in-car software for many brands from BMW to Porsche to Jaguar.
