Gus van Sant, the director, producer and/or writer of many movies you’ve heard of, including (1997) Good Will Hunting and (1998) Psycho, recently put his signature on BMW’s latest video ad campaign that promotes the i8 hybrid sports car.

So far made up of three videos, it seems the aim is to emphasize the i8’s status as a technical achievement, one that was not easily achieved, but now that it’s here, you’re invited to look at it as some sort of halo car.

The hybrid sports model currently represents the technological pinnacle of the BMW brand, and it’s from the i8 that the tech will trickle down into lesser models; BMW doesn’t do the same thing Mercedes does and put all its futuristic eggs in its flagship sedan basket.
