The first model of Citroën’s DS upscale brand, the DS 3, has been updated with a new light signature, new engines and additional technology features. Starting from July, the DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio gain new headlights combining LED and Xenon technologies with new sequential indicators.

Citroën says the new headlights offer greater visibility in both low- and high-beam positions, with “lighting of exceptional quality that is also restful on the eye.” Using three LED modules and a Xenon module, the headlights are said to reduce energy consumption by 35 percent in low-beam mode and by 75 percent in high-beam. They also have a standard lifetime of over 20,000 hours, 20 times longer than halogen lights.

Styling-wise, the new headlights provide the DS 3 with a more high-tech look, with the independent modules styled to resemble diamonds. The LED DRLs remain placed in the bumper, while the 3D-effect LED taillights complete the modern look. The facelifted DS 3 also gets a new Pearlescent White body paint, as well as new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels.

On the inside, the DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio bring new features and personalization possibilities, including a laser engraved dashboard strip and screen-printed rear window featuring Paris’ most emblematic monuments: the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe.

In terms of engines, the refreshed DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio get new Euro6-compliant petrol and diesel engines. The two new diesel engines are the BlueHDi 120 and BlueHDi 100, rated at 3.6 l/100 km (65.3 mpg US) and 3 l/100 km (78.4 mpg US), respectively. CO2 emissions are 79 g/km and 94 g/km, respectively, making them the cleanest engines in the segment, according to Citroën.

The DS 3 continues to be available with the 207 hp “Racing” engine and the THP 155, but adds the Euro6-compliant PureTech e-VTi 82 ETG, rated at 4.1 l/100 km (57.3 mpg US) and 95 g/km of CO2. The engine is mated to a 5-speed Efficient Tronic Gearbox (ETG) that features a creep function and optimized pedal mapping.

Finally, in terms of technology, the DS 3 and DS 3 Cabrio are the first models to get PSA’s Active City Brake technology which is aimed at avoiding low-speed collisions. There’s also the availability of a reversing camera linked to the eMyWay navigation system.
