There were many reasons to worry for hardcore BMW M fans when the company announced the core M3 model would not only get a different name in coupe and cabriolet forms, but also a downsized, turbocharged, 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine producing 425 hp (431PS) and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque.

Were their worries justified? According to Auto Express’ review of the BMW M4 Coupe, not really. If the new naming strategy for the coupe and cabriolet has already been absorbed by the market, there were some fears related to the twin-turbocharged straight-six engine.

Well, except for the noise, which the reviewer found to be less engaging than before due to its synthesized nature, the powerplant is deemed worthy of the M badge: there is no turbo lag at all, the power delivery is instant and torque is much higher than before.
