Porsche has been very careful over the years to not directly step on the toes of its cherished 911 range with the mid-engine Cayman coupe series, but the German automaker seems to have reconsidered, as it’s preparing a flagship version possibly named GT4, that will sit atop the current Cayman GTS.

We brought you an initial set of spy shots of the Porsche on Tuesday, but our man with the long lens had a second encounter with a Cayman GT4 prototype and took some fresh pictures, while we also discovered a video of the tester filmed in Germany by YouTube author Gumbal.

It is believed that the new GT4 could be the first factory Cayman to out-power the base version of the 911 with a bigger 3.6-liter flat-six delivering around 360 horses. The current Cayman GTS’ 3.4-liter boxer engine produces 340PS (335hp), while the base 911 Carrera has a 3.4-liter unit with 350PS (345hp) and the Carrera S, a 3.8-liter flat six churning out 400PS (395hp).

However, there is a possibility that Porsche may up the power on an upcoming 911 facelift, as we have seen the German firm trying out a number of 991 prototypes over the past few months.

Along with a more potent powertrain, the Cayman GT4 will also get chassis upgrades and a new aero package highlighted by the modified front bumper with a lip spoiler and a fixed rear wing.
