The (now cheaper in the UK) Subaru BRZ’s lack of power and general character are quite well documented, as the car’s been around for over two years now. Sadly, it won’t be addressed via a more powerful (supposedly STI) version of the car, as many people have been speculating ever since it was launched.

Motoring says that despite the fact that fan forums are demanding it, as are dealers around the world that are actively lobbying for one, Subaru is apparently not budging.

Nick Senior, the managing director of Subaru Australia put it bluntly: “at the moment there is no plan to have another STI model.” He did concede, though, that the brand is looking at various “tuned by STI” special editions, along the lines of those show off so far – at least for Australia, that is.

These will feature “stripes and all different types of things.” It shows what kind of clientele the BRZ is aimed at, when the brand’s priority for the near future is to give it more stickers…

Senior didn’t rule out the possibility of a special one-off model specially tweaked by Subaru Australia along the lines of what they’d like an STI BRZ to be like.
