At least one guardian angel was doing his or her job at the Nürburgring Nordschleife on May 1, when the driver of a VW Golf GTI Mk5 emerged unscathed from a heavy crash.

The amateur driver was enjoying a lap of the Nurburgring Nordschleife when he underestimated a corner and entered it too fast. Judging from the video, he lifted the throttle and braked when he realized he was going too fast, upsetting the balance of the car.

The Golf GTI’s rear end started to swerve and the right rear wheel touched the grass, sending the car into a massive slide and head on into the barriers.

The fact that the driver was not hurt speaks volumes about his luck and the protection offered by the car, which hit the guardrails at a considerable speed. According to the uploader of the video, the driver was taken to the hospital just for a check.
