Having set itself a goal, a decade prior, of selling 800,000 vehicles per year by 2018 in the US, VW is reportedly reconsidering its plans/estimates, since the market is not really going with them on this. With sales falling slightly last year, and a plan based purely on constant, steady growth, it doesn’t look like a check they can cash.

TheDetroitBureau got in touch with VW US’ new CEO, Michael Horn, who detailed the matter. His view is that “for now, we have to have realistic targets,” admitting that “it’s a challenge” to achieve the set goals.”

He goes on to defend the plan, though, arguing that “the vision is right… long-term. But timing is the huge challenge.”

However, despite the fact that “it’s only a few years away,” and there’s little they can do to fix it now, Horn did not make it clear when he will officially announced the recalculated. It’s clearly something that needs to be done, though.
