Compared to its predecessor, the second-generation Toyota Aygo certainly looks more original and modern, and I would dare say that it looks better than its platform siblings as well, the Peugeot 108 and Citroën C1.

But while looks are an important criteria for buyers, a city car should convince them with its practical and technical skills too. Carbuyer’s Rebecca Jackson took a full-spec Toyota Aygo for a drive and found it to be great in the city and not so great on country roads.

While the new Aygo’s steering is deemed precise and accurate as well as light (favoring parking maneuvers), and while the heavily revised 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engines sounds “quite sporty”, the reviewer says the city car is not much fun to drive. Sure, it’s quieter than the outgoing model, but Jackson says the Skoda Citigo and VW Up! are superior in terms of fun.

Head down to watch the review.
