If you want to know all the specifics of an old vehicle, but can’t be bothered to do reading of your own, there’s no better place to find out all kinds of interesting facts than Jay Leno’s Garage.

His videos are extremely insightful combining the things he knows about a certain vehicle with knowledge from marque specialists – this one about his 1971 DeTomaso Pantera will not leave you wanting for answers, that’s for sure.

The Pantera has grown in popularity in recent years, as more and more people find out about it and realize that it’s actually quite cheap for what you’re getting. As Jay and Pantera expert Michael Drew explain, there are actually a lot of pros to buying and owning one of these cars as opposed to something similar and more mainstream, like a Ferrari or Lambo.

They dive straight in and say that the Panteras were quite badly built, especially the early models, and that if you want to buy and drive one every day, there are a few sensible upgrades that you can do to it to keep it from overheating, failing or just being annoying like any classic can be.

However, if you do sort one out and do the correct things to it, you will be left with a car that sports stunning Italian mid-engined supercar looks married with robust American engineering and V8 power (and sound). Another nice thing about it, that’s still relevant today, is the fact that being built with Ford parts, most are still available for order new, so you’ll never be completely stuck in your restoration of one of these if the supply of (cheaper) second-hand part doesn’t suffice.
