We knew about Infiniti’s plans to offer the Q30 Concept from last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show in 2015, and now, we learn via a Twitter statement from Nissan’s chief planning officer, Andy Palmer, that Infiniti boss Johan de Nysschen has just confirmed the production of a QX30 Crossover as well.

Here’s what Palmer stated: “Johan de Nysschen just said that we’ll build our Q30 premium compact car and QX30 crossover in the UK (Sunderland) next year. I’m proud.”

Sounds pretty clear, right? Well, it would have if the Q30 (pictured above and below) was a regular premium hatchback, but in Infiniti’s own words, the compact model will merge “the dynamic design and sportiness of a coupe, the roominess of a hatch and the higher stance of a crossover”.

So, what’s the deal of having both a compact hatch partly inspired by crossovers and a same size crossover? Guess Infiniti is the only one who can answer this question.
