For some reason Land Rover believes the world needs yet another performance SUV, so the UK-based carmaker will reveal its fastest and most powerful ever production model at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend (June 27-29). Actually, reveal is a bit too strong a word, as the car will climb the Goodwood Hill in a camouflaged outfit.

That’s because the Range Rover Sport SVR is currently under development and will only go on sale in 2015.

The new model also inaugurates the new high performance SVR designation for future high-performance Land Rover and Jaguar models created by Jaguar Land Rover’s recently announced Special Vehicle Operations team.

JLR didn’t offer full details about the SUV’s powertrain, but said it produces 550PS (542hp), allowing PR people to call the Range Rover Sport SVR “the fastest, most agile and most responsive Land Rover ever built.”

The Special Vehicle Operations division will also develop all future SVR models, which will be built alongside existing models and sold through the Land Rover dealer network in the usual way. Scroll down to find out more about the Range Rover Sport SVR from the people that are currently developing it on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
