As you probably know, the Chevrolet Cruze has already received a second-generation model in China, where it is built locally by the Shanghai GM joint venture. Following the car’s debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April, where only the exterior was showcased, GM has now released the first interior photos.

The new Cruze features Chevrolet’s flowing signature dual-cockpit design inspired by classic sports cars like the Corvette and Camaro. Chevrolet says that doesn’t affect practicality, with the cabin being described as roomy and comfortable. The sporty theme is continued with the three-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel that is combined with a dual gauge instrument cluster.

The photos appear to depict a top-spec model, as it has leather upholstery in Saddle Brown tone – not only on the seats, but also on the lower part of the dashboard and door panels. Additionally, chrome accents are accompanied by a piano-black-trimmed center console and ice blue ambient lighting. Overall, the interior looks like an evolution of the current model’s cabin but with a more luxurious touch.

In terms of connectivity, the new Cruze features an 8-inch multi-point touch screen and the Chevrolet MyLink II system with personalized apps which allows customers to get directions, access their personal contacts, and stream music and images by connecting their smartphone via Bluetooth. The Cruze also gets voice controls to access features such as hands-free calling.

GM says interior space was expanded by optimizing its layout and structure, moving forward the cowl point, as well as adopting four wheels that extend outward and a roof curve that extends backwards. Furthermore, the engine’s reduced size helps maximize cabin space.

As spy photos have shown, the 2016 Cruze for the U.S. and other parts of the world should look very similar (if not identical) to the Chinese model, both inside and out.
